Caribbean Cook Off

Will you be in Lithonia, Georgia on September 19th, 2009? If so, check out the Caribbean Cook Off at New Birth Athletic Field.

Competition

The Caribbean Cook-off will be one of the biggest highlights to end the summer. The cook-off will consist of three dishes from variety Caribbean countries. Each dish will be judged on the following criteria, taste presentation and creativity. A cash prize will be awarded to the winner of each category. The Caribbean Cook-off will include fun activities for kids and adults. A variety of local artists will be performing throughout the day. This is a family fun day that all can enjoy.

Scholarship

Princess M. Boyd was a woman from the Caribbean who embodied the American dream. She put education first, receiving two Bachelors degrees and a Masters Degree. She was a caregiver to special needs children and a successful entrepreneur in Atlanta, GA.

The Princess M. Boyd Scholarship was created to benefit Caribbean high school students, either Caribbean born or Caribbean descent. The student is required to maintain a B average or better, write an essay which discusses the dream of Caribbean- Americans and reside in Atlanta, Georgia or surrounding areas. The scholarship will be given to the best essay at the Caribbean Cook- off.

A portion of the proceeds of the Caribbean Cook-off will benefit the Princess M. Boyd Scholarship.

Detailed Criteria

  • Maintain a B average (or its equivalent)
  • 500 word essay with the subject being
  • “What is the Caribbean American Dream”
  • Currently residing in the Greater Atlanta Area
  • Caribbean born or Caribbean Decent

At least one of the candidate’s grandparents should be a native of the following countries
