I read this article from The independent in the UK, published on May 10Th. I had a variety of reactions from the article.

1. Being a country boy, I am fully aware that violence can happen anywhere. The country people are sometimes scared to go to Kingston because of continued violence but there is also an ingrained fear of what took place in the 70's and 80's. I remember in the late 80's, my first time going to Kingston, I had to remove all jewelry. In my recent trip to visit family in Grants pen, I had the same reoccuring thoughts.
2. They mostly referenced violence in Kingston and that is true but I am still not sure how the violence in the capital city has tarnished the rest of Jamaica.

3. Past trouble & future reporting. Violence in Jamaica is politically motivated but this is rarely discussed.

Any thoughts?
