I made this statement already but maybe some Caribbean artists did not get the memo a few months back. Whether or not you are an emerging artist or established, it really does not matter. The Internet is your media outlet. Owning a domain name is your portal to utilize this media and also control your content.
www.shurwaynewinchester.com is an example of what I mean. He clearly is branding himself on his own website. Another great example of owning your own domain is that your fans know which shows you will actually be attending (stay away from fake promoters) because you will have it on your own calendar.
It is always better to own your name as a domain. For example, MachelMontano.com or BeenieMan.net. There are times when I am confused by other people who register other artist domain names and I have no idea if they are management, the artist (Official website), or just someone who already registered the artist name. Check out EdwinYearwood.com and you will be directed to Caribbean Entertainment website. Now, I looked at their roster to see if Edwin Yearwood was listed as a artist they represents and could not find him. hmmm!!
Remember your domain is a part of your brand. Your domain name should be the name you intend on using for public consumption, I would recommend you also register your real name as well ( Imagine you blow up and now everyone knows your real name, you want to own that too) . If you do not own your domain (dot com) someone else will, you will become successful and not own a vital part of your brand.
It is much harder to purchase your domain when you are famous and the cost is now 20,000 versus $9.99 a year. If you are serious about your music career, take this advice.
While I am at it, my company is embarking on a new journey in music download. With keeping with tradition, we keep it simple, easy to remember, and marketable. You will be hearing more about www.DigitalSoca.com and www.IDancehallReggae.com.

Very nice post. This is so very true. I believe that as a Caribbean we need to start to think of how we can leverage the internet in or branding and marketing efforts.
I guess internet marketing and branding is just beginning to evolve in the Caribbean Entertainment Industry
